Minæ Amoris.translation
XXVIII.
Ps.138. Iob. Ps.138. Titel. Iob.
HEi mihi Domine! quo ibo à spiritu tuo? &
quo à facie tuâ fugiam? Quis mihi hoc tri-
buat vt in inferno protegas me & abscondas me
donec pertranseat furor tuus? eheu! si descendero
in infernum, ades. & si sumpsero pennas meas di-
luculo, & habitauero in extremis maris, etenim
illuc manus tua inueniet me, & persequetur me
dextera vindictæ tuæ. nulla alia restat fuga nisi ad
misericordiam tuam. igitur Domine ne quasi fu-
ribundus & implacabiliter iratus me arguas aut
confundas; neque quasi iratus Iudex in seueritate
iustitiæ tuæ, me punias: sed si exigentibus iniqui-
tatibus corripere aut arguere me volueris, quæso,
id facias correptione paternâ in amabili miseri-
cordiâ tuâ. Manus tuæ fecerunt me, & plasmaue-
runt me totum in circuitu, & sic repente præcipi-
tares me? memento quaso quod pelle & carni-
bus vestiueris me, vitam & misericordiam tri-
bueris mihi, & quod visitatio tua custodiuerit
spiritum meum. Delicta iuuentutis ne memine-
ris Domine. translation

Domine ne in furore tuo arguas me. Psal. 6. translation

Reminiscere miserationum tuarum. Psal. 24. translation

Mon Dieu suspendez vostre bras,
Seigneur ne me chastiez pas.

Menaçe de l'Amour.
XXVIII.
Helas mon cher Amour, vous pourez vous resoudre,
De porter contre moy, l'ardeur de vostre foudre,
Qui ne suis rien qu' vn rien formé dans vostre main:
Si vous me ruinez, cest gaster vostre ouurage,
Vous ne me pouuez veoir, sans y veoir vostre image,
Et quoy, l'auriez vous faict, pour la traçer soudain?

Detened Amor el braço
Que para vengar enojos
Bastan solos vuestros ojos.

O Heere! wederhout den slach/
Verandert gramschap in verdrach.

Threats of love.
Woe unto me, Lord! [Ps.138(139):7]1 Whereto must I go from Your spirit? And whereto shall I flee from Your face? [Job 14:13] Who would grant me that in hell you protect me and hide me until Your rage passes? Woe! [Ps.138(139):9-10] If I descend into hell You are there. And if I take to my wings in the morning, and go to live in the farthest regions of the sea, truly there Your hand will find me2 and the right hand of Your punishment will come after me. [end of Ps. 138(139):9-10] There is no other way to flee left but to Your pity. Therefore, Lord, do not as it were in a rage and implacably angered accuse me or destroy me. And do not punish me as an angry judge in the severity of Your justice, but if You should wish to arrest me and accuse me because my iniquities require this, please do this by taking hold of me in a fatherly way and in friendly compassion. [Job 10:8-9] Your hands made me all round and would You then cast me down? [Job 10:9] Remember, I ask from You, [Job 10:11 ] that You clothed my in skin and flesh, [Job 10:12] that You gave me life and compassion, and that Your attention guarded my spirit3. Do not remember the wicked deeds of my youth, Lord.
O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger KJV Ps. 6:1
O Lord, rebuke me not in thy anger RSV Ps. 6:1

Remember that you had mercy GH Ps. 24(25):6

    Notes

    1
The situation is a bit complicated in this text, the pieces belonging to Ps. 138 and those belonging to Job are mixed together.
    2
"illuc manus tua inueniet me": instead of 'inueniet' Stuttgart Vg. has 'deducet' and nothing in app.crit.
    3
"misericordiam tribueris mihi, et quod visitatio tua custodiuerit": this 'quod' is not in Stuttgart ed. of Vg.
