Together with a group of students, we have been working on an article on Heinsius' Ambacht van Cupido. This week, it was published by Neerlandistiek.nl, titled:

Leiden University library organises an exhibition on emblem use in the classroom based on a new book by dr. A. Frank-van Westrienen. The book will be presented at the exhibition's opening ceremony, July 6.

Last weeks, a group of students has been working on a 1613-edition of Heinsius Ambacht van Cupido. This digital edition of the first imprint of Heinsius's second series of emblems has not been published at the official site of the Emblem Project Utrecht, but can be checked at:

Please notice this is work in progress! Also, all comments and additions are in Dutch.

Today, January 9th, we have added links to almost all large tiff/jpg-files (600 dpi) of the originals used for our edition. Some links in Vaenius Amorum emblemata still need some work, but in the rest of the editions the tiff/jpg-files can be downloaded from the facsimile pages.

When you follow the instruction "Click here to download the original image" the downloading process will start.

The Digitale Bibliotheek Nederlandse Letteren (DBNL) just published a number of the emblem books - digitized in their own format, using the XML-files of the Emblem Project Utrecht -. See:

Among these new releases is also one Dutch emblem book that is not a part of the EPU-corpus. It is now published as the of result a joined effort of the DBNL, Mnemosyne and EPU. Special attention is asked for the first digital edition of J. De Brune's Emblemeta of Zinne-werck (1624):

Today, October 19th, we have changed and added:

• the Zoomify-function is now available for all emblem books, including Vaenius's Amorum emblemata; some thumbnails are still missing, this wil be restored next week


• new translations to Van Leuven's Amoris divini et humani antipathia have been added, the ones still missing will follow shortly


• the Dutch introduction to Cats's Sinne- en minnebeelden now has better navigation


• a number of items have been added to the bibliography, including for instance: Porteman, Boete Adamsz. van Bolswert


• several references to literature have been added

• an improved version of all concordances (now showing part of the context of all lemmata)


• the appearances of emblem text (adding line breaks between separate subscriptio's)


• the appearance of bibliographical information (in footnotes and elsewhere)


• the order and names of the submenu's under 'Project' in the top menu on each pages (introducing 'Help' to make clear where information about the site's navigation can be found, and 'Editorial Procedures and Techniques' to point more directly to the technical information on the site

Today, October 10th, we have changed and added:

• each emblem now has a listing of 'References, across this site, to this page': other pages within the site (other emblem book as well as the bibliography) referring to this specific emblem
