XXVI.
HEt delven en het ploegen om de vrucht
Is lastigh werk, daer d'arbeit onder zucht:
Nochtans de schup nogh d'aerde heeft gevoel;
Zy blyven op het zweet des lantmans koel.
Maer, is het hart zelf d'akker, dien men bouwt,
Of liever, is 't een wildernis, een wout,
Daer wellust aen den eik van hoogmoet groeit,
En 't wilt gediert van alle driften loeit;
Dan voelt de gront zelf smert, en dubbel zwaer
Is arbeit, die de ziel houdt in gevaer.
Doch, als Godts min met hare rechte hant
De spade stiert en dryft den ploeg door 't lant,
Hoe zacht ontglydt den arbeit dan zyn wicht,
Gelenigt door haer daeu en zonnelicht?
Dan teelt die Zon een ryken overvloet
Van vruchten uit een weldoorwerkt gemoet,
Tot glori van den Leenheer van 't heelal.
Wat zalige, wat milde hemelval,
Die arbeit kroont, doch nu geen arbeit meer,
Maer wellust in den dienst van zulk een' Heer!
